Lyon and Annecy

Lyon:

Lyon, France has both old and new parts to it. If you are traveling to find old Eurpope, you will find it there, or if you are looking for something more modern, you will also find it there. You can also find a mini Eiffel Tower (it is really just an old cell tower). Lyon had a lot of ground to cover, so to make the most of our time there, we did a day of exploring ourselves as well as a guided bike tour. On our self-guided explore day, we did my favorite activity while traveling – wander around. We wandered through the streets of Lyon with me naturally finding the touristy part of the city. While wandering through this part of the city, I purchased cute postcards to send to family and friends back home. One thing to know about me is that on my travels, I collect postcards. Sending these postcards was a great addition to our day of exploring. When on the guided bike tour, they made sure to show us that it was an electric bike, which was great because Lyon had a lot of hills. This tour offered us the choice of two different routes. One route was more scenic and the other had more history. We went on the history route which took us to the outside of the City and some historical monuments, including churches and statues. The guide also took us to underground tunnels that were used during the war, and are now used as shortcuts to get around the city. The tour was very informative and definitely helped us make the most of our short time in Lyon.

Annecy:

We originally stopped in Annecy for one reason: to go canyoning. Canyoning is rappelling, jumping, sliding and climbing down a mountainside via trails, rivers and waterfalls. Part of why Annecy is so great is because of Lake Annecy. While going down the canyons, the water flowing down enters into Lake Annecy and since the water here is gorgeous, it made for a really nice climb down. Usually the water is clear, but we were a bit unlucky as a week prior there was some flooding in the area and the water was very muddy, but despite this, the experience was still amazing and I would love to do it again. Even though this was the main reason we visited Annecy, there was a lot more to do than just canyoning. Annecy is a great place to just wander around aimlessly. You can wander around and find tourist stores, food, or even just spend time at the clear, blue waters of Lake Annecy. Like most places in Europe, you can also find your history. Another great thing about Annecy is that it is very close to Switzerland. This means that if you want to try cheese fondue but are not going to Switzerland, you can find a great place to try in Annecy. Overall, Annecy is a cute, wonderful little city in the South of France that has lots of things for anyone to do.

Would I go again?

I would love to go to Annecy again. This place was full of tourist shops and I felt like I could explore the city for days. There are also different activities and some history sights I’d like to see. On the other hand, I would not be opposed to going back to Lyon, but there are places higher on my travel list that I’d visit first before going back to this city since I feel like I already covered so much ground in this place.
