Camden Market:
Going to Camden market was the first activity we did in London. Camden Market was huge and there were a bunch of different merchant stands with a variety of different things being sold. You could easily spend the entire day here shopping around the stands. Even outside of Camden market there were tourist areas with other little shops along the streets. Anything you could think of you could more than likely find here, including a portable charger, which was something we needed. Along with a bunch of stands, there were also a bunch of food and beverage places. Any type of drink or food you were wanting you could find. It would be very easy to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at Camden market. Camden market is a great place to spend a day in London, but because it is so big, with a lot of people wandering around, it can be a little overwhelming.
Borough Market:
Another thing I found to do in London, was to eat chocolate covered strawberries. On TikTok they looked amazing and became a must do on my list of things to do while there. Let me tell you, these chocolate covered strawberries were as amazing as they looked. We went to Borough Market as sort of a last minute event. In London, we were running out of time to fit in everything we wanted to do, and it looked like going to this market may have been one of the activities that was going to be dropped. Luckily, we managed to find time to get there and just in the knick of time. Seriously, we arrived roughly a half an hour before the market closed and we were rushing to find these strawberries. Thankfully, they are very popular and the first person we asked knew exactly what we were talking about and pointed us directly to them. Since we had arrived right before the market closed, we did not get to explore the market. From the little that was seen, Borough Market appeared to have a lot of stands with a huge variety of items and it would have been nice to do some further exploring. I would gladly return to Borough Market to explore more and get the chocolate covered strawberries again.
Notting Hill Bookshop:
A blind date with a book was something I stumbled across one day somewhere when planning my trip to London. I cannot remember where I learned about it, but it was something that I really wanted to try. After looking into it online, there were a lot of options to order a blind date book online but none really in person, until I stumbled upon The Notting Hill Bookshop. This was the only place I was able to find that had a blind date with a book and right away, this became the first thing I wanted to do in London. The Notting Hill Bookshop is a cute little bookstore that has a variety of books ranging from books for little kids to Jane Austen. The books they have had different cover editions to choose from as well. In a little basket on the floor was where I found the blind date books. They had about six books to choose from, wrapped in brown, kraft paper so you could not see the cover, with a description of the book handwritten on the back. Each of the descriptions on the back were very different, so no matter what genre of books you liked to read, you would have been able to find a book that seemed suited to your liking. Since returning from my trip, I have yet to read my blind date book, but I have opened it and read the actual book description now and I am very much looking forward to reading this book when I have some free time. This bookshop is a must go to for booklovers if you are in London. Even if you do not want to try a blind date with a book, just the variation of book covers they have is awesome.
Big Ben and London Eye:
Big Ben and the London Eye are two of the most well known monuments in England. First, we went to Big Ben. Like Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, we only stopped and looked at the massive clock. It was amazing how big the clock actually was and it was beautiful to look at. Something I did not know was how close Big Ben and the London Eye were to each other. They are pretty much just over a bridge and on the other side of the street from one another. The London Eye is a huge ferris wheel that overlooks London. We were hoping to go on it, but we did not buy tickets ahead of time, instead waited until we got there, and unfortunately, the slot times that were available were hours away and too close for comfort to the start of our musical that night, so we ultimately decided against going on the London Eye. If I were to go back to London, the London Eye is definitely something I would make sure to pre-buy tickets for to make sure I don’t miss it again.
Would I go again?
I would absolutely go to London again. We spent a week in London and I still do not feel like that was enough time there. If I were to go back again, I could probably find a week’s worth of new stuff to do there. I would love to go back and further explore London.
Highlights of London: musicals, chocolate covered strawberries, Notting Hill Bookshop.
Fun fact about London: London is actually the smallest city in England.
